We took our first family vacation to Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in Kentucky. Packing up all of the things we needed or thought we needed for Evelyn was a learning experience. Turns out we overpacked, but that is what having an SUV is for, right?
Anyway, we took two days to drive down, spent three nights at the lodge and took two days to drive back. This gave us two full days at the park. We were hoping to do a lot of hiking with the fancy backpack from Dan's coworkers, but it rained the entire first day. So we went to the closest town of Corbin and toured the the KFC museum (for lack of anything better to do).
Now it turns out that this museum is really just like any other KFC, but with the original dinning room, kitchen, and cases of memorabilia throughout. But Evelyn got her picture taken on the Colonel's lap and we discovered that she does not like KFC mashed potatoes.
The second day was absolutely perfect for hiking.
Funny story about the picture above... after a nice lady took this picture for us she handed me back the camera, smiled at Dan, then looked shocked and said, "There's a baby!" Like somehow we didn't know Dan had a baby strapped to himself.
We went out several times and Evie seemed to enjoy riding around with Daddy.
Evelyn loves water and thought the falls looked like a lot of fun!
We hiked from the lodge to the main falls and also took a less traveled trail to a smaller falls. This trail was a bit steeper and probably not intended for people to take a baby on, but Daddy is a pro when it comes to carting around his little girl and made it to the smaller falls no problem.
After a long day of hiking Evie thought she should try some of Momma and Daddy's drink.
Both the main falls and the smaller falls are beautiful and we had a great time on our first family vacation.
Evie did great on her first trip, most of the time at least. When we had a rough moment on the way home we discovered that singing "Apples and Bananas" over and over made her happy. Poor Dan.
